About Carp Lake Township

Carp Lake Township is made up of three small towns ~ White Pine, Silver City, and part of Green.

It is home of the Porcupine Mountains.  The Lake Superior shoreline runs along Highways M-107 and M-64.

The township has a total area of 225.9 square miles, of which 225.1 square miles is land and 0.8 square miles is water.  The elevation is 1,027 feet.

The time zone is Eastern Standard Time with daylight savings time change for the summer season.

Carp Lake Township population is approximately 722 according to 2010 Census.

At one time, Carp Lake Township's main industry was Copper mining.  The Copper Range mine supplied jobs for many people who lived in Carp Lake Township along with counties ~ Ontonagon, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, and other areas.  Click on History of White Pine & Copper Mining for more information.

Carp Lake Township had it's own school district, White Pine School District.  With jobs no longer available for people who lived in the township, people had to relocate in other areas.  This affected the school system, a decline in students and upkeep of school buildings.

The very last graduation held at White Pine High School was for the "Class of 2003".  The White Pine School District soon dissolved in 2008 and became a part of the Ontonagon Area School District.
